Current Projects:

The John Bell Hood Historical Society has joined with the John Bell Hood Camp 50 Sons of Confederate Veterans of Galveston, Texas to erect a monument in honor of General Hood at an appropriate Civil War battlefield site. Due to a new federal law, the U. S. Department of Interior, National Park Service, now forbids the placement of any and all historical/memorial markers at federally owned Civil War battlefield properties, thus negating the possibility of markers honoring Gen. Hood at most of the battlefields where he served.

The John Bell Hood Historical Society and the John Bell Hood Camp 50 is currently assisting local Civil War preservationists in Eltham, Virginia, in an effort to preserve and develop the famous Eltham's Landing battlefield, site of the renowned Hood's Texas Brigade's first combat on May 6, 1862. As part of the envisioned Eltham's Landing Battlefield, the John Bell Hood Historical Society is proposing a statue or other appropriate memorial to Gen. Hood.

The John Bell Hood Historical Society and the John Bell Hood SCV Camp 50 will monitor developments in Eltham, which hopefully will become the first public memorial to Gen. Hood.

The John Bell Hood Historical Society owns and maintains the www.johnbellhood.org web site. The johnbellhood.org web site is the internet's most comprehensive source of information on the life and career of General Hood, and offers a defense of Gen. Hood's 1864 Tennessee Campaign; rebuts the unfounded rumor of Gen. Hood's alleged laudanum usage; and challenges the criticisms of Gen. Hood by author Wiley Sword in his book, The Confederacy's Last Hurrah.
