The John Bell Hood Historical Society presents
Hood's Tennessee Campaign:
Other Voices!

May 9-11, 2008
Hyatt Place-Cool Springs
Franklin, Tennessee

The John Bell Hood Historical Society will hold its 2008 Conference and Tour in Spring Hill/Franklin Tennessee on the weekend of May 9-11, 2008. A study of Gen. John Bell Hood's desperate and decisive invasion will be conducted, and for perhaps the first time the long silenced views of Confederate government officials and officers and enlisted men of both the Union and Confederate armies will be revealed and considered.

Was Gen. Hood's invasion merely a quixotic dream? Who was to blame for the mysterious Confederate failure at Spring Hill? Was Gen. Hood's decision to attack at Franklin a sound tactical decision, or the actions of an enraged commander simply punishing his army? These and other common questions will be considered.

This year's event also includes an introduction to a relatively unknown but highly significant aspect of the Tennessee Campaign. For the first time ever an analysis and tour of the Army of Tennessee's hazardous and heroic retreat from the frozen hillsides of Nashville will be held over much of the original ground where it occurred. A professional analysis of the remarkable rear-guard actions led by Confederate Generals, Stephen D. Lee, Nathan Bedford Forrest, and Edward C Walthall against Gen. George Thomas's pursuing Union legions will be held. This portion of the conference will provide a rare glimpse of a much neglected aspect Hood's Tennessee Campaign.

Our expert guides will be Carnton Plantation Military Historian Eric Jacobson, author of the acclaimed new book on Spring Hill and Franklin, For Cause and For Country: A Study of the Affair at Spring Hill and the Battle of Franklin, and David Fraley, Military Historian at the Carter House, author of a soon to be published book on Hood's retreat.
